It is situated on the west side of the mountain Ovcar. There are no information about the precise period in which this monastery was built but according to some characteristics of the monastery church, we suppose that it existed in the XVI century.

According to some historical facts Sretenje Monastery was destroyed by the Turkish in 1650.

The monastery was reconstructed in 1818 by the priest Nikifor Maksimovic. One part of these buildings was destroyed during the German bombing in 1941. In that occasion, the monastery library was destroyed. In 1844 Nikifor Maksimovic invited two painters Zivko Pavlovic and Nikola Jankovic to  decorate  the monastery church with two big artistic units.
